COVID-19 Ongoing Care

In James chapter 2 it says, “Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.  If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?  In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
— -James 2:15-17

In 2020 we faced the world-wide spread of the coronavirus, economic collapse along with racial and political unrest.  As the world waits in quarantine, God’s people are poised to share the love of Jesus with effectiveness as never seen before.

In February 2020 Connect Global Co-Founders Javier, Danielle and Saige Mendoza moved to Honduras.  Just weeks after settling into their home in La Ceiba, the nation of Honduras was brought into full quarantine.  Much of the the population of Honduras already faced stark poverty.  With quarantine even those with employment were prevented from going to work.  Stores and businesses across the country were closed.  All busses and taxis were ordered to cease operations.  The country was closed and people were sent home without the means or earning potential to buy the basics.

As the world went into lockdown, Connect Global went into action.

Fortunately God had placed The Mendoza Family in the right place at the right time. Immediately our team including The Mendoza’s, our National Director Jorge Amador and his family along with several strategic church partners in Honduras began to share much needed food with the community. By the favor of God the local police awarded Javier and Jorge legal permission to leave their homes daily, to buy food and deliver that food to families and strategic care locations around the city. They delivered these resources since the beginning of the shutdown on March 15th. The Mendoza Family is currently stateside fulfilling visa requirements, fundraising for current and ongoing relief efforts, and available for speaking opportunities to share what God is doing in Honduras either in person or via video.

Connect Global delivered over $20,000 worth of food and personal care products in 2020.

These deliveries were made mostly in the form of “Family Food Bags” as well as bulk food delivered to Strategic Care Ministries. We have worked hand in hand with the local Pastor’s Association (APEC), local orphanages, senior care facilities, a local drug and alcohol rehabilitation center and a church-led feeding center providing food for the homeless and food-insecure. It’s been such an honor to place much needed resources in the hands of several hundred individuals as well as deliver thousands of pounds of bulk groceries to the drug rehab center where over 40 people live while overcoming their addictions. In every case we’ve been able to share much more than food; we’ve shared the Good News of Jesus.

Today the nation of Honduras is beginning the long process of reopening.  It is expected that the coronavirus and economic impact will be felt for months and years to come.

in 2021 and beyond, Connect Global will continue to serve those in need.

Knowing that the community will continue to need support for food and the Gospel we have adopted a 3 part plan.

1) Family Food Bags:  We will continue to provide these Family Food Bags to individual families (including pastors’ families) as needed to make sure that their needs are met.

2) Strategic Care Ministries:  We will continue to focus efforts on Strategic Care Ministries that are in turn caring for larger groups of people.  Delivering food in bulk to these locations helps provide care for dozens of people at a time

3) Urban Gardening through Aquaponics:  We have set the goal to build 50 urban gardens for families all over the north coast region of Honduras as well as 1 large Urban Farm to grow food in bulk and to provide a training model.  Between March 15th & June 8th We built 5 of these family-sized Urban Farms.  This component will provide long-term sustainability through helping others grow their own food and allowing Connect Global to grow large amounts of food to give away.

To move forward into the new year with this Covid-19 Emergency Care Plan we have set the goal of raising an additional $25,000.  With these funds we will continue to provide Family Food Bags, Bulk Food for Strategic Care Ministries and Build the next 45 Family-Sized Urban Farms and 1 large Urban Farm.

I AM WRITING YOU TODAY TO ASK THAT YOU WOULD PRAYERFULLY CONSIDER JOINING US IN THIS EFFORT.

A gift of $5,000 or more will help us build 10 of these Urban Farm Systems towards of goal of 45 more, a gift of $1,000, $500, $250, $100 or even $50 will help significantly in our ongoing commitment to provide food and love for individual families all over La Ceiba and the northern coast of Honduras.

WILL YOU GIVE WITH US TO HELP OTHERS?

Your partnership over the years has been so meaningful to us all here at Connect Global.  We look forward to hearing from you and partnering with you in reaching Honduras and the world with the Good News of Jesus.

God Bless you.
